Accra, Jan 31, GNA – Two hundred youths from La township have successfully completed one-month free tuition in computer hard and soft wares, under the La Information Communication Technology (ICT) Project, launched in December last year.
The youth, who were between 10 and 20 years, were taken through basic knowledge in computer and its significance in today’s world. Mr Norvalis Gans-Lartey, the assemblyman for New Mantiase Electoral Area, who played a major role in organising the project, said it was aimed at bringing knowledge in ICT to the doorsteps of the people of La.
He said the training would help the youth to upgrade their knowledge in ICT to enable them to fully benefit from the technology. Mr Norvalis Gans-Lartey noted that the cost involved in computer training was high thereby denying many people the opportunity of acquiring ICT.
He said: “As a result when I was invited to the launch of the ‘La COM IT Learning Project’ I did not hesitate at all, so I decided to assist in anyway possible way for the project to take root in the La community.
“I entered into a working agreement with the “E-Club” a social club made up of young IT specialists who have devoted themselves to provide computer lessons, for the project to commence first in my electoral area,” he said.
Mr Gan-Lartey said the second phase of the programme would involve other electoral areas adding, “I hope that after this programme the ‘fever’ will catch up with all the youth in La to enable them benefit from the learning”.
He appealed to well-meaning people and organizations to contribute to the success of such project.
Mr Eric Osa Laate, Principal of La Vocational Technical Training Centre, commended the organisers of the programme for assisting the youth to acquire knowledge in ICT.
He said the youth of the entire La Dadekotopon Constituency should benefit from such training programmes to enable the acquire skills in knowledge to enable them contribute to national development. Mr. Laate said the ICT industry was very dynamic and advised the youth to be abreast with and new versions of existing products that kept surfacing all the time.
“Your continued focus in practicing and upgrading this knowledge will assure you of a better place in the society,” he said. The youth were presented with certificates.
