2 street robbers nabbed in K’si

Two young men have been arrested at Asafo and Doctor Mensah, in connection with a series of street robberies in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, after they had been placed on a police wanted list for many months.

Richard Owusu Ansah aka Bonteley, 21 and Nana Gyamfi aka Milo Shito, 23, both residents of Ashanti New Town, were arrested Tuesday by a police patrol team after pulling their final heist on a woman.

They are currently in the custody of the Manhyia Divisional CID assisting with investigations.

Police said the duo were allegedly involved in raids on April 23, 2015 and May 18, 2015 armed with guns, one of which was used to shoot a victim identified as Joseph Kwaku Acheampong, at about 8pm when the suspects were being chased.

According to the police, Milo Shito was arrested by a police patrol team after he had allegedly robbed Lamisi Baba of her purse containing GH?600. The suspect, in the process, also caused damage to the victim’s phone when his attempt to take it by force was resisted.

He led the police to arrest Richard Owusu Ansah, who was involved in another robbery incident with an unidentified suspect currently at large, on May 18, 2015 at about 10pm.

The police indicated that Bonteley and his accomplice attacked and robbed one Ataa Serwaa and William on Sunday of their tablet and phones at gun point.

Ataa Serwaa was attacked in front of her home at Ash Town, the police narrated further, and added that the victim later confronted the mother of the suspect whom she knew very well in the neighbourhood over the robbery.

The suspects have since denied the offences in their caution statements to the police, praying alibi.
