The Anti Robbery Unit of the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two men who were travelling from Tamale to Accra armed with a pistol and an AK-47 rifle.

The two suspects have been identified as Seidu Alhassan, 30 and Lukeman Adams, 29.

The AK-47 rifle, fully loaded with 48 rounds of ammunition, and the pistol, also loaded with seven rounds of ammunition, were retrieved from the suspects upon a search.

A police source at the CID headquarters told DAILY GUIDE that the two, both residents of Tamale, were apprehended on Monday, October 12, 2015 through police intelligence.

The suspects were trailed from Tamale where they were coming from to Accra, and were finally apprehended at the La Beach area.

“On October 11, 2015 the anti armed robbery team trailed the accused persons suspected to be carrying the weapons until they boarded an Accra-bound bus,” the source said.

He continued that the suspects did not alight on the way until they arrived in Accra the following day around 6:30am.

Police continued to follow the suspects who visited and surveyed some houses in Labadi and Labone.

After a while, the two were rounded up and when a search was conducted in their bags, the weapons and a talisman were found in their bags.

The two are yet to be sent to court.

ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwa, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of CID, who confirmed the arrest, said the matter was still under investigation.
