18 drivers fined GHc18,800 for traffic offences

Eighteen recalcitrant drivers have been fined a total amount of GHc18,800 by the Madina Magistrate Court Grade Two, presided over by His Worship Richard Delali Anku.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mary Ahiafenyo, told the court that on July 30 the 18 drivers were arrested by the Madina Divisional MTTU Command for various traffic offences, at different locations within the Municipality.

ASP Ahiafenyo said they were charged with various offences, including unauthorized parking, obstruction, causing danger to other road users, and picking pasengers at unauthorized areas.

The prosecution said the divers who pleaded guilty, were fined to a total sum of GHc18,800.

The Divisional Police MTTU Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Michael Asiedu said, it was unfortunate that most of the drivers had converted the Zongo Junction Foot-Bridge and Atomic Junction into lorry stations.

ASP Asiedu, therefore, warned drivers within his jurisdiction, to refrain from such dangerous acts, as they would be dealt with ruthlessly when caught.

He pleaded with the driver to always carry the original copies of their driving licenses, instead of photocopies of the licenses.
