106 Health Extension workers in Awutu-Senya inaugurated

Kasoa (C/R), July 19, GNA – Dr Nuhun Adams, the Awutu-Senya District Chief Executive, has advised health extension workers to improve on their qualifications to enable them gain admission into health training institutes.

He made the call at the inauguration of 106 health extension workers of the National Youth and Employment Programme (NYEP) in the Awutu-Senya District at Kasoa after their six months training. Dr Adams said within his short stay in office, 600 youths have been engaged in the programme.

He urged the health extension workers to be law abiding, respectful and punctual to work to avoid being sanctioned. Nana Osiebi Quansah, Central Regional NYEP Co-ordinator, commended them for their interest and hard work exhibited during their training.

He promised them that their six months payment arrears would be spread over some period.

The Regional Co-ordinator urged them to be humble and understudy the trained nurses at their various wards to help offer quality health care to patients.

Nana Quansah said government has introduced new models called Youth in Entrepreneurs and Skill Development Programme for the unemployed.

He said they will be provided tools and equipment during their training adding that 100 youth from Awutu-Senya will benefit from the programme.

Madam Patricia Antiw, Awutu Senya District Health Director, said the workers will be posted to health facilities in the District to assist the nurses.

The Awutu-Senya District Acting Co-ordinator of NYEP, Sulemana Abdulah-Asda in his welcoming address hoped that the workers would comport themselves and cooperate with doctors and nurses at their various work places.

He appealed to heads of various health facilities to send periodic appraisal reports about the performance of health workers to his office to be forwarded to NYEP headquarters.
