NY, USA — Honourable Kwabena Adusa, Member of Parliament of Nkawkaw constituency is in New York and had the opportunity of meeting the executive Committee members of NKAWKAW DEVELOPMENTAL ASSOCIATION OF NORTH AMERICA on Saturday, September 25th 2004 to discuss some of the problems facing the newly formed Nkawkaw district.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways and means of making Nkawkaw a Model town/city. Issues discussed were on Education, Health, Sanitation and the well-being of the youth in the district. The chairman of the Association, Mr. Kwaku Manu, promised the MP the Association’s preparedness to set up 100 million-cedi scholarship fund by January 2005 to help those bright but needy students in the district. This fund would be given to students based on merits – academically and character. He estimated that, the fund would reach its target of 250 million cedis by December 2010.
The Secretary-General of the organization, Mr. Frederick Ansong-Dwamena talked about the Association’s commitment in helping the youth in areas like educational counseling, free vacation classes for finalist- JSS 3 and SSS 3 students. He said the usual notion that ?Kwahu’s get their MBA from Kantamanto and Aboisey Okai? is no longer the case. He said in consultation with The National Association of Kwahu Students in Legon, UST and ?Capevars?, Nkawkaw Developmental Association of North America, will organize free Vacation classes for the students who are in their final years. This, he claims, would close the gap between students from Prestigious Schools in Accra and Kumasi and those from Nkawkaw and the suburbs.
“Society must invest heavily in our future leaders”, he said. He called upon all “citizens” of Nkawkaw-Kwahu in North America and around the world to come together as a body and help reduce school dropouts and juvenile delinquencies in the area. He further explained that, the Association is a non aligned organization, not based on ethnic origin. Nkawkaw is a diverse town with all kinds of ethnics groups; as such; the organization represents anybody who had lived Nkawkaw for at least a day, irrespective of their ethnic background.
Honourable Mr. Kwabena Adusa, appealed to the Association to come to the aid of the youth in terms of education and employment. Mr. Adusa outlined the current developments in the town and requested for the Association’s input to make Nkawkaw-Kwahu a model town. He called for a partnership between the Assembly and the Association in all areas of development.
