10-month-old baby killed by collapsing building

Akim Swedru, June 7, GNA – A ten-month-old baby girl met her untimely death at Akim Swedru on Friday, when a dilapidated building collapsed on her after a heavy downpour.

Two other siblings of the decease who sustained various degrees of injuries had been treated and discharged at the Akim Oda Government Hospital.

A grief-stricken mother of the decease, Madam Charity Amoako, told the Ghana News Agency that, the two older daughters did not attend school on that day, as result of a down pour and instead, went to a neighbour’s house to play.

She said later in the day as she was going to fetch water, she left the baby behind and went to call her daughters to go and keep watch over their younger sister.

Madam Amoako said the children rather went for their sister and sent her to their neighbour’s house, where the building collapsed on them, killing the baby instantly, while the other two sisters were injured.

She said the children were rushed to the Akim Swedru Clinic, where they were referred to the Akim Oda Government Hospital for treatment and were discharged the next day.

The baby has since been buried.
