Kormantse (C/R), Feb. 7, GNA – A total of 12 projects estimated at 1.2 billion cedis are to be executed under the Sixth Phase of the European Union Micro Project in the Mfantseman District. Mr John Nketiah Sarpong, Central Regional EU Co-ordinator, said this at the sod cutting for a three-classroom block for the Kormantse D/A Junior Secondary School (JSS) on Tuesday.
The ceremony marked the beginning of the Phase under which the European Development Fund (EDF) would provide 75 per cent of the estimated cost, 15 per cent by the District Assembly while the beneficiary community provided the remaining 10 per cent usually in the form of communal labour and the provision of sand, stones and water for the projects.
Mr Sarpong commended the communal spirit of the beneficiary communities, which contributed to the early completion of the nine projects under the Phase Five and said this had influenced the increase to 12 under the Phase Six of the EU Projects to be executed within six months.
Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, District Chief Executive (DCE), urged school children to appreciate the efforts their parents were making towards their education by studying hard to make the investment worthwhile.
The DCE advised teachers to guide their students to take useful decisions about their future and urged parents to support teachers to enjoy their stay in the communities.
Mr Jonathan Benefo, District Planning Officer, said six communities would be provided with vault chamber toilets, two with water closet toilets while a nurses quarters, a teachers quarters, rural clinic and a school block would be would be built under the Sixth Phase of the EU Projects.
