Mr. Robert Coleman, Greater Accra Regional Communication Manager of Zoomlion Ghana limited, has promised that his outfit would continue to partner government agencies to ensure good and acceptable sanitation in the country.
“In compliance with President Mahama’s sanitation taskforce to educate and eliminate bad sanitation practices, Zoom Alliance, a subsidiary of Zoomlion Ghana, has spelt out a comprehensive sanitation plan with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) and we are hopeful that by the end of this year, people will become more conscious than before.”
Mr. Coleman said this when Zoom Alliance in collaboration of the Ledzekuku-Krower Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) launched the Assembly’s taskforce and undertook a two-hour clean-up exercise in parts of the Nungua township.
The launch formed part of President Mahama’s directive to all assemblies, some weeks ago to place every Ghanaian on board the fight against filth and negative environmental practices throughout the country.
Launched about three weeks ago, the exercise, which would last for a period of ten weeks, has engaged a total of 16,250 individuals throughout the country to undertake cleaning and educate other people on the need for good sanitation practices in their localities.
Zoom Alliance under the exercise is providing logistics made up of 20 compactor trucks, 10 Borla taxis, 20 skip trucks and wheel barrows for the Greater Accra Region, while similar logistics would be given to the other nine regions to enable them to execute their task efficiently.
Mr. Colemen said over 400 taskforce members were deployed to LEKMA exercise and appealed to people to stop littering the streets and their environments as that had negative repercussions on the lives and survival of residents of those areas.
He said Zoomlion had positioned litter bins in vantage areas of Accra and appealed to the public to make maximum use of those bins as that would go a long way to enhance the lifespan of every citizen in the capital.
The Communications Manager appealed to various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies throughout the country to institute stiffer punishment for people caught littering the environment to deter others from engaging in such practices.
“I think that the people are doing these on daily basis because they have not seen others punished for littering and if such bye-laws are put in place everybody will be vigilant in his or her environment and surroundings,” he concluded.
