Zoomlion Ghana Limited and the Jospong Group of Companies have provided a new elevator for the five-storey Administration Block of the Ghana Police Service Headquarters in Accra.
The $60,000 project which has space capacity for eight persons is aimed at enhancing the movement of police personnel in the building.
Social responsibility
Speaking at a ceremony to hand over the elevator keys to the Ghana Police Service in Accra yesterday, the Director of Administration of Zoomlion Ghana,
Mr Emmanuel Okomeng, said the provision of the elevator formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
He said management was committed to partnering with the security services to enhance peace and security in areas “where most interventions are needed.”
He was optimistic that the elevator would aid operations at the police headquarters.
“We believe that this donation will go a long way to support the Ghana Police Service in its quest to deliver efficient security services in the country,” he added.
Mr Okomeng called on other corporate bodies to help to improve the infrastructure of the police to enable the personnel to offer quality service.
He lauded the Ghana Police Service for its visibility programme under which police personnel were stationed at vantage points.
Security sector
Receiving the keys to the elevator, the Director-General in charge Technical of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP), Mr Frank Adu-Poku, expressed gratitude to the company for its continuous support towards the maintenance of security in the country.
He was optimistic that the company would sustain the support.
Mr Adu-Poku, however, called on corporate Ghana and individuals to emulate the good example of Zoomlion to help improve security, saying that “security is a shared responsibility.”
