Zoomlion Ghana Expands to Burkina Faso with Integrated Waste Management Project

Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies, is set to bring its waste management expertise to Burkina Faso in a groundbreaking partnership. The initiative follows a high-level meeting between Zoomlion’s Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, and Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.

Held in the presence of Burkina Faso’s Minister of Environment, Roger Baro, and Ambassador to Ghana, Major Colonel David Kabré, the meeting laid the groundwork for an integrated waste management project. The initiative will focus on waste collection, recycling, recovery, and treatment, leveraging Zoomlion’s decades of experience to address Burkina Faso’s growing environmental challenges.

Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister praised the project, emphasizing its potential to create jobs and enhance public health. “This initiative promotes African expertise and aligns with our commitment to support investors who contribute to national development,” Ouédraogo said.

Dr. Agyepong expressed confidence in the vision of Burkina Faso’s leadership, particularly President Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s focus on job creation and environmental sustainability. He announced plans to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Environment to formalize the partnership and begin infrastructure development.

A key aspect of the project is capacity building. Dr. Agyepong highlighted that Burkinabe youth will receive training in Ghana to manage waste facilities locally, ensuring the project’s long-term sustainability. “We are not going to import Ghanaian workers to Burkina Faso,” he said. “We will train young Burkinabe people to take charge of waste management in their country.”
