Zonal schools hold cultural festival

Akumsa-Domase B/A, June 21, GNA – Reverend Kubi Asuamah-Yeboah, Nkoranza District Education Assistant Director in-charge of budget and finance has urged the youth to respect the elderly in society to enable them to receive blessings from God.

Rev. Asuamah-Yeboah was addressing students, teachers and parents of Bonsu and Nkoranza zonal schools at Akumsa-Domase following the celebration of their annual culture festival on the theme: “Culture a tool for peaceful co-existence”.

He recalled the past where children ran to meet the elderly, collect his or her baggage or load when seen returning from a journey or farm and expressed regret that such noble character was not reflecting on the life of the youth of today. “At public gatherings and in vehicles, young children normally give up their seat for the elderly who might be standing to seat,” Rev. Asuamah-Yebaoh who is also in-charge of the Akumsa-Domase Methodist church noted.

He advised parents to give the necessary support and assistance to teachers to help revisit such norms to promote discipline among the youth.

Rev. Asuamah-Yeboah called on the youth to be proud of the country’s culture and values since culture make people unique and different from others.

He condemned the indecent dressing among the youth, particularly females which expose some important part of their bodies to the public. Mr. James Appiah, District Cultural Officer, urged traditional drummers, dancers and singers to assist teachers in teaching the youth about such cultural activities in order that they would grow to have a sense of nationalism. He advised Ghanaians to respect the culture of other groups to help promote peace and tranquility. 21 June 07
