Zita Okaikoi’s Husband Dupes Businessman

The husband of Zita Okaikoi, Minister of Tourism, Andrew Okaikoi, is under pressure to refund Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis to one Isaac Kumodze, a businessman he allegedly used his wife’s office and GIPC to dupe.

The Tema International Hotels brought hotel equipment from China this year, incurring a clearing cost of Thirty Four Thousand Ghana Cedis.

Mr. Andrew Okaikoi allegedly told Mr. Kumodze, his long-time friend, that since the items were meant for hotels he could use his wife’s office to clear them and that the businessman should give him Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis for the transaction.

On the 1st 2010, Mr. Okaikoi allegedly collected Three Thousand Ghana Cedis from the businessman “to sort out his boys” at the GIPC, to pave the way for the clearing of the container.

He demanded another sum of Four Thousand Cedis the next day, which he claimed was meant to grease the palm of the GIPC boss.

Again on 5th June, he told his friend the GIPC boss had demanded the amount involved should be made a round figure.

Mr. Kumodze therefore added another Three Thousand Ghana Cedis to bring the total amount to Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis yet Mr. Okaikoi appears unprepared to carry out his part of the deal.

The Publisher has in its possession evidence of correspondence, via text messaging, between Mr. Okaikoi and the businessman with respect to the transaction. Even though Mr. Okaikoi refused to comment on the allegations when contacted him, he called the businessman to ask him why he had told the media about the issue.
