Zamse Secondary/Technical Board appeals for aid

Bolgatanga, Oct. 10, GNA – The Board of Governors of Zamse Secondary/Technical School in Bolgatanga on Thursday made an appeal to the Upper East Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) to intervene and save the school from collapse due to the lack of infrastructure.

The Board made the appeal when they paid their maiden visit to the office of the Regional Minister, Mr. Boniface Gambila, at the RCC. Presenting the school’s problems to the Minister, the Board Chairman, Mr. Bonaventure Aligebam, explaining that the lack of accommodation for both staff and students constituted one of the major problems facing the school.

According to the Board Chairman, the school cannot attract and maintain qualified teachers because of lack of accommodation, saying this was affecting the school’s academic performance seriously. Mr Aligebam further noted with concern that whenever there was a heavy rainstorm the roofs of the classrooms got ripped off. He added that the classrooms also leaked whenever there was a rainfall. The school, which is located at the centre of the Bolgatanga Municipality, could help a lot of students and parents in town if it was given serious attention, the Board Chairman stressed.

The Regional Minister in his response, asked the school Board to prioritise their needs by implementing their projects one after the other in order of importance, since they cannot solve all of the problems at once. He asked the school’s Board of Governors to draw and submit a list of infrastructure needs of the school to the RCC, saying he would impress upon the GETFund and the Ghana Education Service to come to their aid.
