Zambian President visits Kumasi

Kumasi, May 13, GNA – The Zambian President, Mr. Levy Mwanawasa now on a state visit to Ghana, arrived in Kumasi on Friday morning for a two-day tour of the Ashanti Region.

Alhaji Aliu Mahama, the Vice President, Mr. Osei Adjei, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and some ministers from Zambia accompanied President Mwanawasa.

Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister and Oheneba Edusei Poku the Akyempinhene, who represented Otumfo Osei Tutu II, met the visiting President and his delegation at the Kumasi Airport. President Mwanawasa after exchanging pleasantries with the welcoming party inspected a guide of honour mounted by 96 men and three officers from the 4th Battalion of Infantry. The ” Amamerso” cultural troupe from the Centre for National Culture also treated him to a splendid cultural performance.

School children bearing miniature flags of Ghana cheered as the President and his delegation drove through the Metropolis. Highlights of the tour include a visit to Anglogold Ashanti at Obuasi and a durbar to be held in his honour by the Asantehene at Manhyia.
