Youth vandalise 80 million-cedi borehole

Goigoikrom (Ash), May 08, GNA – Nine young men from Goigoikrom near Nyinahin in the Atwima-Mponua District have destroyed a borehole constructed for the people by the district assembly at the cost of 80 million cedis because of its nearness to a football park. The Nyinahim police are looking for them.

Mr Wilberforce Owusu-Ansah, the District Chief Executive, gave their names as Hanson Gyamfi, Akwasi Thomas, Job Bimisal, KofiKyei, Yaw Andrews and Kwadwo Asumadu.

The rest are Yaw Owusu, D.J. and Nana Kwadwo. He said the town was noted for guinea worm and buruli ulcer because animals have contaminated the only pond used by the people. He said when the people of the town appealed to the assembly for the provision of a borehole, the assembly did not hesitate to construct one for them.

Mr Owusu-Ansah said they could not get any appropriate place to site the water system than part of the town’s football pitch.
