Youth urged to tolerate divergent views

Akim Swedru, Nov. 21, GNA – The Member of Parliament(MP) for Akim Swedru, Mr. Alex Owusu-Adjapong has urged chiefs to impress upon their people, especially the youth to tolerate all shades of opinions and views to ensure peace in the community during and after next the December elections.

He said differences in views and opinions should not bring hatred and conflict but rather promote unity and national development. Mr Owusu-Adjapong made the remarks when he received a delegation of chiefs from Akyem Bosome Traditional area led by the Queen mother, Nana Kwatemaa Minkyim, the second , who called at his residence on Saturday to thank him for his contributions to the development of the traditional area.

Last Friday, the MP accompanied Brigadier Joseph Odei, the National Co-coordinator of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to present 100 bags of cement and ten packets of roofing sheets towards the rehabilitation of Akyem Bosome Chief’s Palace and the Queen mother’s residence, which were burnt down by fire recently.

Mr Owusu Adjapong who is also the Majority Leader in Parliament and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs appealed to the youth to channel their youthful exuberance into productive ventures.

The youth, he said, must be educated on the harmful effects of drug addiction and leading of immoral life, which could expose them to the deadly HIV/AIDS diseases.

On behalf of the traditional council, Nana Minkyim commended the government on its tireless efforts to help improve living conditions of rural dwellers.

She mentioned the mass cocoa spraying exercise, which had made it possible for cocoa farmers to maximize their yields and the rehabilitation of feeder roads in farming communities.
