Youth urged to overcome mischief and greed

Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education, Mr. Lord Larbi, has rallied the nation’s youth to overcome indiscipline, mischief and greed.

He said they should rather uphold the values of hard work and integrity.

Mr Larbi said this when he addressed students selected from five Senior High Schools (SHS) at a day’s workshop on “Project Citizen – Ghana” in Kumasi.

The schools are Opoku Ware, Prempeh College, Anglican, Wesley Girls’ and Kumasi Girls’ SHS’s.

Project Citizen – Ghana, an initiative of the NCCE, is designed to engage the youth and help them to have a clearer understanding of using public policy to solve community problems.

It is being implemented with support from the European Union (EU).

The workshop provided the platform for the students to make presentations on various topical issues including, “girl child education”, “drug abuse”, “street hawking” and “the growing incidence of robbery”.

Mr. Larbi expressed optimism that the project would tremendously assist the youth to become active in the search for solution to the myriad of social challenges facing the society.

He encouraged the students to lead decent lives to serve as good examples to others in their communities.

Mrs. Naana Janet Abudu, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education, said the project should be expanded to cover Junior High Schools (JHS).

This is necessary to help the youth to become patriotic and useful citizens.
