Youth urged to avoid promiscuous lifestyles

Tanoboase (B/A) Sept 20, GNA – A traditional ruler in the Techiman Municipality at the weekend advised the youth to adhere to the educational messages about HIV/AIDS and to avoid promiscuous lifestyles. Nana Amesare Dwomo, Chief of Tanoboase, was speaking at the launch of an HIV/AIDS programme under the theme, “The youth, engine of national development”, organised by Save Life, a community-based organization (CBO).

He expressed gratitude to the CBO for the programme in the area to save the lives of the people and urged the youth to support the organization in the fight against the spread of the pandemic. Osofo Owusu Afriyie, Co-ordinator of Save Life, noted with regret that despite the efforts of the government to help reduce the spread of the pandemic, various socio-cultural and economic factors continued to exacerbate the situation.

Nine volunteers, including a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer, were selected to work with the CBO in the area.

Nana Kwame Poku Ware, Secretary of the Organization, urged them to work assiduously and warned them not to indulge in acts that would tarnish the image of the organization.

He explained that the programme was launched at Tanoboase because the town had become a tourist destination and there was the need to educate residents about the dangers of the pandemic. Madam Rose Ankomah, a health teacher at the local JSS, noted that HIV/AIDS statistics in the municipality was staggering and called on the people to redouble their efforts to help arrest the situation.
