Accra, May 20, GNA – The Minster Education, Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu, has assured the youth of her Ministry’s readiness to factor them as potential stakeholders to formulate policies into the country’s educational system.
The move, she said, formed part of measures to collate views from the youth in the quest for sustainable education delivery to accelerate the pace of national development.
Mrs. Mould-Iddrisu said this in a speech read for her at the maiden annual youth forum on education at the Lincoln Community School at Abelemkpe in Accra.
It was organised by the Ghana Student Education Fund in conjunction with the Ministry of Education.
Eight secondary schools in the Greater Accra Region engaged in a debate on a wide range of education issues as a step to factor their ideas into the ministry’s policy document.
The Oreilly Senior High School emerged the winner of the debate. The West Africa Senior High School was adjudged the best debating school although it bracketed in the second position with the Ordorgonnor Senior High School.
The two schools will be featured on July 02 so that the winner would contest the Oreilly Senior High School for the final debate. Mrs. Mould-Iddrisu said the global world expected the youth to come out with brilliant and innovative ideas to advance the course of society.
The Ministry will therefore ensure that learners did not only develop logical and critical thinking but also have the ability to do research that will provide solutions to issues confronting good quality education delivery.
The Founder of the Fund, Mr Stan Osei-Bonsu, said his outfit was poised to reform the educational system in order to ensure a holistic education in the country.
He said efforts were being made to bring learners and stakeholders together to find lasting solutions to problems facing the education sector. Mr. Osei-Bonsu said since its establishment in December 2006, the Fund had sponsored three students to pursue higher education.
He expressed gratitude to partners such as the Ministry of Education, the Lincoln Community School, the Agricultural Development Bank , ETV Ghana among others for supporting the initiative.
