Accra, June 7, GNA – The Patriotic Youth League (PYL), a group that describes itself as a liberal democratic minded youth organisation, on Tuesday called for vigilance to protect the country’s young democracy. This, it said, was in the light of “unhealthy arguments” being made for and against the government, which, in effect, went to shake the foundations of the infant democracy.
A statement in Accra signed by Mr Eric Mensah, National Co-ordinator, said Ghanaians should remember events that led to the 1979 uprising and the 31 December 1981 revolution, which overthrew a constitutionally elected government.
It said almost all national issues had been politicised, thus leading to politics of lies, deceit, divisiveness, fabrications, unsubstantiated allegations, subtle and vile propaganda and hyping of less important events.
“We the youth of this country will never allow any adventurer or element as such to draw this nation back to the dark days,” the release said.
It, therefore, called on the Government and all other stakeholders to remain steadfast and focused.
