Accra, April 2, GNA – Naa Professor John Nabilla, Project Director of Population, on Friday, said the youth should be given the right information on Adolescent Sexually and Reproductive Health (ASRH) at the right time so that they could make informed choices for better life. He said there was the likelihood that over dose of whatever information given them might not be used for the intended purpose.
He was speaking at the close of a two-week training workshop on ASRH and advocacy for youth coordinators organised by the National Youth Council (NYC) and members of the Federation Youth Associations of Ghana. Prof. Nabilla noted that there was the need for coordinators to draw youth specific programmes bearing in mind the cultural values that pertained in their various localities. He urged the youth to serve as role models for their colleagues and the younger ones in their community.
The workshop, which formed part of the sponsorship package of the African Youth Alliance on policy and advocacy to be implemented by NYC, attracted 30 participants from the Upper West, Ashanti and the Eastern Regions. It equipped them with adequate knowledge and skills on ASRH issues with particular reference to HIV/AIDS issues. Participants were taken through the introduction and guidelines to strategic planning, workplace impact study monitoring and evaluation, development and advocacy guidelines and work plan.
The youth at the end of the workshop issued an eight point communiqu=E9 urging the Government to expedite action on the revision of the nation youth policy, re-structure NYC to include the establishment of a viable research, policy, planning, monitoring, evaluation and international relation departments. Mr Roberto Agbadza, Course Prefect, on behalf his colleagues commended the Government for creating the necessary supportive and enabling environment for youth development in the country.
