Bolgatanga, Aug. 13, GNA- Representatives of youth groups have called on government to organise more youth unemployment workshops to discuss the possibilities of young people establishing their own businesses to help solve the unemployment problem in the country. The 300 representatives, drawn from all the regions in the country, met for five days to celebrate the international Youth Day under the theme, “Young people, Making Commitment Matter”, in Bolgatanga on Friday.
They held workshops on ‘Youth and Employment’ and discussed topics including, preparing the youth for employment and self employment, the extent of youth unemployment in Ghana, millennium development goals and global plan of action.
Mr Boniface Gambila, the Upper East Regional Minister, said the government would support the youth to set up sustainable businesses and asked them to avoid conflicts and unite for national development. Mr Joe Mantey, National Coordinator of the Youth Council, called on youth leaders to mobilise young people for the development of the country saying, “We will be acknowledged as effective leaders if we demonstrate the capacity to change challenges into opportunities.” The Youth Day celebrations were organised by the National Youth Council and supported by the Ministry Of Manpower, Youth and Employment.
