Youth leader charged for assaulting a woman

Asamankese (E/R), July 11, GNA – The Mbrantehene (Youth leader) of the Akyem Breman, in the West Ayem District of the Eastern Region, Kwasi Aboagye, who allegedly led a mob to attack the chief of the village, had been granted five million cedis bail for assaulting the woman, who provided refuge for the fleeing chief.

Aboagye pleaded not guilty and was ordered to report thrice a week to the Asamankese Police until he re-appears in court on July 13. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Alhasan Amadu said, on May 22, this year, the chief of Akyem Breman, Baffour Akese, who resided at Asamankese, went to Akyem Breman to celebrate the Akwasidae festival. He said the chief was in the house of Maame Esi Ataa, when he was attacked by a group of people and a report was made to the police at Asamankese and in the course of investigations, some of the youth were invited for interrogation.

Chief Inspector Amadu said on June 5, a group of youth marched on the residence of Maame Ataa with clubs and stones and attacked her but was however rescued by her son.

He said the youth mentioned the accused as the one, who ordered them to attack Maame Esi, because she was the one, who had mentioned their names to the Police to be arrested.

Chief Inspector Amadu said the son of Aboagye, who was among the mob who attacked Maame Esi, reported to the father that the woman’s son had threatened them with a gun.

According to the prosecution, based on that information, the Mbrantehene stormed the house and confronted the woman and her son, during which he was said to have warned the complainant’s son that he was prepared to meet him squarely because he had pointed a gun at his son.

Chief Inspector Amadu said Aboagye was then reported to the police, who arrested him.

The accused faces another charge of threatening the Chief of Akyem Breman.
