The Upper West Regional Youth Parliament has appealed to Parliament not to allow the Youth Bill brought before it to gather dust but expedite action to pass into law.
The Youth Parliament stated that it was aware some reforms were ongoing culminating in the laying of the Youth Employment Agency Bill in Parliament, but expressed disappointment at the delay.
The Youth Parliament made the appeal in a statement issued and signed by the Speaker, Issahaque Abass Caesar, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa on Tuesday.
“We are, therefore, calling on both sides of the House to, as a matter of urgency stop, the petty politicking and the game semantics and pass the Bill to enable the youth get jobs to contribute their quota to national development,” the statement said.
The statement appealed for the fast-trucking of the legal mandate of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency to enable it to operate smoothly to benefit the youth.
Meanwhile, Mr Mumuni Sulemana, Upper West Regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA), in an interview with the GNA, lauded the call by the Youth Parliament, saying it was about time the youth woke up to demand from leadership what was due them.
