Youth demonstrate about death of six-year-old boy

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Nov 20, GNA- Angry youth at Kyeremasu, near Dormaa Ahenkro in Brong Ahafo last Monday blocked the main road running through the town for more than seven hours over the death of a six-year-old boy who was knocked down by a vehicle.

The youth did not allow any vehicle to pass through the town as they demonstrated through the streets in defiance of the intervention of Mr Emmanuel Duku, Dormaa District Chief Executive.

Master Emmanuel Adu died on the spot when he was run over by a Benz passenger bus as he crossed the road.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akwasi Dente, Berekum Police Divisional Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Dormaa-Ahenkro that the incident occurred at about 0830 hours.

He said following the incident the youth became angry and blocked the Berekum-Dormaa-Ahenkro road and demonstrated through the town.

Mr. Dente said the timely presence of police reinforcement from Berekum to beef up personnel from Dormaa police helped to save the situation.

The Commander said he had to assure the youth that negotiations were on-going for the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) to construct ramps to help minimize accidents.

He said that calm has returned to the town and the body of the deceased had been released for burial.
