Nsawam (E/R) Jan. 18, GNA – The Agave Youth Club based at Nsawam was initiating measures to develop the Avegargorme peninsular in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region into a botanical garden to promote tourism in the area. The project, which formed part of the club’s five-year development programme, was estimated at 1.4 billion cedis.
Mr Francis Atsu Akahoho, executive secretary of the Club, said these when he was inaugurating the Club at Nsawam at the weekend. He said a nursery, kindergarten, primary school, junior secondary school, library, and toilet would be built to facilitate the development of the area. Mr Akahoho said members would work in inconjuction with the District Assembly and non-governmental organisations to achieve the objectives of the club. Mr Akahoho called on the Volta River Authority and the District Assembly to assist the people to clear water hyacinths on the Volta river at Sondo, Dzebetato, Dzebenu, Asidofe and Avegagorme areas, where bilhazea and other water-borne diseases were common.
Nana Nkwantanan Dowuona III, Chief of Amoakrom near Nsawam, commended the club for its developmental initiative. He appealed to the group to assist the Akuapem South District Assembly in protecting the river Densu from pollution and to plant trees along the river.
