Koforidua, Oct 21, GNA – Mr Prince Kofi Asante, the Deputy Eastern Regional Focal Person on HIV/AIDS, has called on the youth to be cautious about their lifestyles because the HIV/AIDS menace was real. He noted with concern that even though so much efforts were being put in to curb the spread of the disease, the prevalence rate kept rising because people were not changing their sexual habits. Speaking at a seminar for women and youth leaders on AIDS organized by the Koforidua Local Council of Churches on Thursday, he said until people changed their attitude towards sex, there would be no headway in checking the spread of the disease.
Mr Asante said the argument that every disease kills and AIDS was not different ”is irresponsible because every disease that is deadly can be cured but AIDS has no cure and that is the difference.” He said statistics showed that the prevalence rate of the epidemic had not stabilized and that was why people have to change their moral attitudes as only way to stop the spread of the disease. A Senior Nursing Officer of the Koforidua Central Hospital, Mrs Ellen Asare, said 80 per cent of infected cases were through sex.
