Youth at Yawkrom threatens mayhem in demand of development

Yawkrom (B/A) June 12, GNA – The youth of Yawkrom, a predominantly farming community in the Dormaa Municipality, have threatened to disrupt all public gatherings in their locality if immediate steps are not taken to improve their living condition.

The youth numbering 50, made their intention known when they nearly disrupted a durbar organised by the chiefs and people of the town in honour of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Vincent Oppong Asamoah who was on an official tour of the area.

The grievances they listed include a claim that their community was provided with a low capacity transformer as part of an on-going electrification project. Mr Asamoah assured the youth that the assembly was working in league with the Brong Ahafo Regional Directorate of the Volta River Authority to replace the transformer. The chief of Yawkrom, Nana Tutu Mensah II condemned the behaviour of the youth and chastised them for taking the law into their hands. “The youth, by their inexplicable behaviour, have betrayed the confidence and commitment of the traditional authority to initiate and complete development projects in the area,” he noted. The MCE visited Aboaboso, Aprakukrom, Kyekyewere and Kofikumikrom where he assured the people of government’s preparedness to improve their lot. At a border post near Yaakrom, Mr Asamoah admonished the security men to employ acceptable practices in their quest to maximize revenue for the state. “In all things, you need to operate within the confines of the ECOWAS protocol while striving hard to raise the flag of Ghana high,” he said. 12 June 10
