Asamankese (E/R), August 04, GNA – Mr Paapa Adjei-Kyeremeh, Eastern Regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA), has described the Ghanaian youth as the pivot of the country’s development.
He said the energy and strength possessed by the youth made them the live wires of all sectors of the national economy, saying that, the authorities must pay more attention to them.
Mr Adjei-Kyeremeh was opening this year’s Youth Voluntary Work-camp, organized by the NYA at Asamankese-Okurase in the West Akim Municipality, o= n Thursday. He disclosed that during every long vacation, the NYA mobilized committed young men and women and sent them into communities to do communit= y services such as building and road construction, pupil teaching, environmental sanitation and public education.
Mr Adjei-Kyeremeh disclosed that a group of 45 youth volunteers selected from three districts in the Eastern Region were at Asamankese-Okurase to assist the community to re-roof a four-unit-classroom block with an office, which was ripped off by a rainstorm recently. He urged the campers to comport themselves in order to leave a good legacy for the people of Okurase and also work with proven dedication, to achieve the desired objective that brought them to the camp. He also charged them to add value to whatever debt the Municipal Assembly and the Okurase community might have incurred as a result of their camp. Mr George Mensah Akpalu, the West Akim Municipal Chief Executive (MCE)= , pledged more support from the assembly to the youth volunteers and entreate= d them to share their knowledge and experiences with the people of the town. Ms Patience Nartey, a youth volunteer at the camp, expressed happiness for being part of the programme, saying, she had learnt so much from servin= g communities and called on other youths to be part of the voluntary service to build Ghana. The youth volunteers are camping at Okurase for 11 days, which started on July 29, to serve the community.
