Ghanaian entertainment pundit Sally Mann has issued a candid warning to Afrobeats sensation King Promise, cautioning him to steer clear of any subtle tension or rivalry with award-winning Dancehall star Stonebwoy.
Her comments come in the wake of the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), where King Promise was crowned Artiste of the Year during a grand ceremony held on May 10 at the Accra International Conference Centre’s Grand Arena. Following his win, Stonebwoy extended congratulations via X (formerly Twitter)—a gesture that King Promise has since failed to publicly acknowledge, sparking conversation online.
Speaking on Adom TV’s live entertainment show, Sally Mann expressed concern over what she perceives as a shift in King Promise’s brand identity and warned him against letting external influences derail his progress.
“You’re a young artiste, and we have witnessed your rise in the industry,” she said. “You carved out a niche as a lover boy, charming fans with your romantic ballads. But now, there are voices around you encouraging you to transition from that genre to a more aggressive style that doesn’t align with your brand.”
Sally stressed that King Promise’s earlier appeal came from his authenticity, especially with female audiences who connected deeply with his romantic image. She cautioned that abandoning this identity might cost him his fanbase.
“Refrain from engaging in any silent rivalry with Stonebwoy,” she continued. “He is a seasoned artist who stands out every time he performs, giving unique experiences that set him apart from his peers. My advice to you, King Promise, is to remain true to your lane and continue nurturing your talent.”
Sally’s most pointed remarks came as a stark warning: “Be wary of those advising you to challenge Stonebwoy and act as if you have a fanbase that could rival his. Disrespecting him could have serious repercussions for your career. If you attempt to cross that line, your rise in the industry may come to an abrupt halt, as you currently do not have the support to engage in such a battle.”
The comments have ignited a fresh debate in Ghana’s music scene, with many watching closely to see how King Promise responds, if at all.
