Youngest MP In Accident

The youngest Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Isaac Asiamah, who is also a policy analyst of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), escaped death narrowly when the vehicle in which he was traveling in the early hours of yesterday crashed into a ditch within the Agona Swedru township.

Hon. Asiamah, 31, MP for Atwima Mponua constituency in the Ashanti Region, was part of the party apparatchiks attending a two-day Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) training programme for women wings of political parties. He had gone to drop a lady friend after a night’s social function when the mishap occurred. The MP, who exchanged humourous pleasantries with politicians from both the NDC and NPP, appeared to be a very affable character. No wonder when word concerning the accident reached participants at the workshop, there was a loud exclamation of sympathy.

It was the NPP General Secretary who broke the news about the road mishap when he sought permission from the NDC General Secretary, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, alias General Mosquito, then chairing a session, to go and find out more about the accident. According to him, he and his colleague Mr. John Boadu, saw the MP’s vehicle in a ditch as they drove towards the Greenland Hotel in Swedru. “We discovered that the vehicle belonged to Isaac Asiamah, but within a short time, I had a call that he had been involved in an accident.

He is being attended to at a local clinic,” he said. Before he could hit the Quarshie Clinic, where the injured MP was being attended to, word reached him that he had been transferred to Accra for further treatment. At the time of filing this report we learnt that he was in a stable condition. This is the second time Hon. Isaac Asiamah has been involved in an accident since becoming an MP. Before they left the Greenland Hotel, politicians from all the parties spared a few moments to pray for the speedy recovery of the legislator who made remarkable intervention in the course of the two-day workshop.
