A tragic road accident on the Bole–Damongo highway has claimed the life of a 23-year-old man and left her mother critically injured.
The incident occurred on Saturday near the Damongo Municipal Assembly in Ghana’s Savannah Region. The victims, identified as Dakurah Eyilisun and her 34-year-old mother, Alice Eyilisun, were riding a motorbike when they were struck by a bus travelling from Bole to Tamale.
Eyewitnesses say the bus, believed to have been moving at considerable speed, collided with the motorbike as it attempted to overtake another vehicle. The impact was devastating, Dakurah died on the spot, while her mother sustained serious injuries.
Speaking to Channel One News, Chief Inspector Grace Odurowaa Boateng, the Savannah Regional Police PRO, confirmed the incident and said Dakurah was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
“Her mother, Alice Eyilisun, is currently receiving emergency care at the St. Anne Catholic Hospital in Damongo. Her condition remains critical,” the officer added.
The crash has sparked renewed calls for improved road safety and stricter traffic enforcement along the often-busy Bole–Damongo stretch, where accidents are not uncommon.
Family members and residents have been left reeling from the sudden loss, describing Dakurah as a bright and kind young woman with dreams of becoming a teacher.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and they are working to determine the exact cause of the collision.
