Young and Lovely Foundation sensitises communities about HIV/AIDS

Akim Oda (E/R), June 15, GNA – An HIV/AIDS awareness campaign has been held in four communities in the Birim Central Municipality to inform the people about the cause, effect, symptoms, and the dangers associated with the virus and how to prevent it.

The week-long programme by the Young and Lovely Foundation, Ghana (YLF), a non-governmental organisation was organised at Akroso, Gyewani Nkwanta, Oda Nkwanta and Nkwantanum.

The participants made up of chiefs, farmers, artisans and youth groups were taken through the mode of transmission, negative impact of the HIV/AIDS on agriculture and the proper use of contraceptives.

Mr Gilbert Kofi Germain, Executive Director of YLF who led the seven resource persons of the programme, appealed to religious leaders to teach their congregations about faithfulness to their partners and abstain from casual sex as the best means of avoiding HIV/AIDS.

He cautioned that condom use was not a reliable means of preventing HIV/AIDS
