The Australia High Commissioner to Ghana, Ms. Joanna Adamson, has urged graduates from the various Polytechnic institutions in the country to start and develop new technologies that would help to address any challenges confronting the economy particularly in the areas of poor health and poverty.
According to the high commissioner, Polytechnic education in particular is very important for development which helps every developed country in the world to create more jobs.
She said by so doing, it enhances the productivity to improve the living standards of the people in the country. She therefore, called on all graduates from the various Polytechnic in the country to start and develop new technologies and that students from Polytechnics were not trained alone to operate machines.
The Australia High Commissioner noted that, entrepreneurs and innovators are needed in Ghana to help make the country more competitive in the global economy.
The High Commissioner, Ms. Joanna Adamson, said this in her congratulation message she read during the induction ceremony in Koforidua for Prof. Smile Afua Gavua Dzisi as the new Rector for the Koforidua Polytechnic, Saturday, August 1, 2015.
Congratulating the newly inducted Rector of Koforidua Polytechnic, Ms. Joanna Adamson said, women make up half of the world’s population but almost everywhere in the world women are underrepresented at senior levels in Business, in public service and in academia.
She said, Prof. Dzisi’s appointment as the new head of the school is important not just for Koforidua Polytechnic but for Ghana as a whole, adding, women’s economic engagement is critical to development of every nation.
According to her, Prof. Dzisi appointment would serve as a role model for other women in the country to be empowered to participate more in the country’s economic growth and development.
She expressed the Australia Government’s happiness to the fact that, Prof. Dzisi is an alumina of Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia where she obtained her PhD.
