Yendi starts Health Insurance Scheme

Yendi, Nov 25, GNA – The Yendi District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has taken off with 6,000 identification cards distributed to people who have finished paying their premium. Mr Alhassan Issahaku Shahadu, the Yendi District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme Manager, told a meeting of the management of the Yendi Government Hospital that 22,186 people out of Yendi’s population of 137,000 have registered.

He said the scheme has taken delivery of three computers and one printer and 342.2 million cedis for claims management from National Health Insurance Council.

Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani, the Yendi District Chief Executive, said the Yendi District Assembly had released 45 million cedis to support the scheme.

He said a 458 million-cedi office complex for the scheme office is under construction at Yendi and appealed to health providers and management of the scheme to treat their clients fairly. Mr Hamidu Mustapha, a Senior Accountant at the Yendi Government Hospital, said since the start of the scheme 10 days ago, 146 clients have benefited from the scheme.

”Daily average attendance is 15 and with much public education on the scheme a lot of people will register.”
