Yendi returns to normalcy – DCE

Most of the people, who fled Yendi following the clash of the two royal families of Dagbon, have returned home, the District Chief Executive of Yendi, Mr Mohammed Habibu Tijani told the last sitting of the District Assembly on Monday.

He said many non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that also closed their offices have re-opened them and were working and commended the government, the security agencies and the Northern Regional Security Committee (REGSEC) for their efforts in ensuring the return to normalcy.

“The area is now calm and people are going about their daily economic activities without fear,” he said. He, however, said five Cuban Medical Doctors at the District Hospital had not retuned jeopardising health care delivery and appealed to the Regional Health Directorate to remedy the situation.

The Assembly was dissolved at the end of the emergency meeting with the members agreeing on 500,000 cedis each as their ex-gratia awards. It also decided on a logo for the assembly.

The DCE said the Assembly spent one billion cedis from its share of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund to rehabilitate government bungalows, transit quarters, schools, public toilets and the completion of a super-market complex. He said an 83-metre mast was being erected by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation to improve reception of telecast in the Eastern Corridor of the region.
