Yendi Municipal fails to elect Presiding Member

The Yendi Municipal Assembly has failed to elect its Presiding Member after two rounds of elections where 43 Assembly Members voted.

Mr Ibrahim Abu Zolge, a staff of the National Disaster Management Organisation at the Yendi Municipality who stood unopposed, could not secure two-thirds of the votes cast by the 43 Assembly Members to enable to take the mantle.

Mr Zolge secured 29 votes during each round of voting making him fall short of the two-thirds majority required to emerge as the Presiding Member of the Municipality.

Another person, who filed to challenge Mr Zolge, was disqualified for not securing the required number of people to endorse his nomination form.

Mr Serfo Agyepong Kantanka, Yendi Municipal Coordinating Director said Management of the Assembly would meet to fix a new date to conduct the election to elect its Presiding Member.
