Yendi Municipal Assembly confirms nominee

Yendi(NR), April 22, GNA – Mr Mahama Adama Walvis 52, a development worker and a youth activist who operates an NGO in Yendi was on Tuesday, unanimously confirmed as Yendi Municipal Chief Executive. In an election supervised by the Electoral Commission, Mr Walvis polled 57 out of the 61 votes cast with two against and two spoilt ballot papers representing 93.4 per cent of the votes cast. He expressed appreciation to the assembly for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to unite the people to ensure peace to promote the development of the municipality. Mr Walvis said efforts would be made to take advantages of opportunities under the Savannah Development Authority to create jobs for the youth. Earlier the assembly elected Mr Adam Alhassan, a teacher as its Presiding Member. He polled 47 out of the 61 votes cast to beat Mr Sulemana Habib who had 14 votes. Mr Stephen Sumani Nayina, Northern Regional Minister urged the assembly members to cooperate with the new MCE and work as a team in consensus building and decision making.
