Yahya Jammeh rejects results of December 1 Gambian election

Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh said on Friday he rejects the outcome of a December 1 election that he lost to opposition leader Adama Barrow and called for fresh elections.

President Yahya Jammeh had earlier accepted and conceded defeat to President-elect of the Gambia, Adama Barrow.

The election result brought an unexpected end to Jammeh’s 22-year rule and was widely seen as a moment of democratic hope.
