The Communications and Community liaison Coordinator for an Obuasi based youth centered Non-governmental Organization (NGO), Youth Alliance for Development (YAD), Mr. Mustapha Alhassan Badini has asked authorities of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) not to intimidate students who will be writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) this week with the heavy presence of National Security officers in a bid to fight examination leakages.
“Examinations in every stage of life comes with its own tension, so how does WAEC expects these young ones to who have been in basic school for 11 good years to use just one week to do a summative assessment and to add pepper to their sore, tell them the National Security or Police is around to arrest anyone who turns back or speak in the examination hall” he queried.
According to the youth activist, WAEC should find other alternative ways of examining students and do away with the archaic written examination which has done the country more harm than good.
“You can’t be judging the competence of the fish and the lizard by asking them all to swim or climb a tree; we at Youth Alliance for Development will continue to campaign against written examinations both at the basic and second cycle level”, he added.
Mr. Mustapha Alhassan Badini further asked candidates to refrain from anything related to examination malpractices before and during every paper they write; but eschew courage and have confidence in themselves.
He warned of a massive campaign against WAEC if there was anything like paper leakages this time round.
