Ya-Na to be buried in April?

Accra, March 9, GNA – The Kuga-Na Abdulai Braimah, Acting President of Dagbon Traditional Council, says he is ready to bury Ya-Na Yakubu II, Paramount Chief of Dagbon Traditional Area in April 2006.

In a letter to the Committee of Eminent Chiefs charged with the responsibility of finding amicable solution to the Dagbon regicidal conflict, copied to the GNA, Kuga-Na Braimah said he had “made the relevant customary consultations with the bereaved family and we have once again agreed to entomb the mortal remains of the late Ya-Na Yakubu II and to customarily install his Gbon-Lana (Regent) in April 2006”. He recalled that he had in consultations with the Adani Royal family and the Consecrated Council of Elders of Dagbon made several attempts to entomb the mortal remains of the King but to no avail.

Kuga-Na Braimah said he believed “that the entombment of Ya-Na Yakubu II; customary performance of first and second burial funeral rites and the installation of his Regent will be the recipe to ease tension in Dagbon and also console the aggrieved Adani Royal Family. He appealed to the Committee to persuade the Government to beef up security in Yendi generally and around the palace particularly “three days before the wives, children and dependants of the late Ya-Na Yakubu move into the palace and to remain until the end of the implementation of the programme”.

Ya-Na Yakubu was assassinated in a fratricidal conflict between the Andani and Abudu Royal families of Dagbon in 2002.
