Xinhua: Ghana begins general elections

ACCRA, Dec. 7 (Xinhuanet) — Ghanaians began to cast their votes on Tuesday morning for the fourth successive democratic elections since 1992, hoping the government for the next four years can bring about vigorous economic development to the politically stable west African country.

A total of 10.3 million people have registered to vote in 21,000 polling stations across the country. They will elect 230 parliamentarians and the president.

The competition for presidency is widely expected to be betweentwo candidates, the incumbent President John Agyekum Kufuor and his longtime rival John Evans Atta Mills. Enditem
