Xavier past students laud Pope Benedict

Kumasi, March 17, GNA – The Students Chapter of Saint Francis Xavier Past Students Association have lauded Pope Benedict XVI for elevating Most Reverend Peter Poreku Dery, former Archbishop of Tamale, to the rank of Cardinal.

In a congratulatory letter issued in Kumasi and signed by Master Isaac Kunko, President of the chapter on Friday said the members acknowledged the good deeds of Archbishop Dery and described him “as a beacon of hope for the church in Ghana and Africa.”

It said the Cardinal-elect, was the first Rector of Saint Francis Xavier Minor Seminary, and a man who demonstrated great exemplary leadership qualities in the church.

The letter expressed their gratitude to the Cardinal-elect for establishing the Seminary, adding; “We wish him God’s continuous protection, blessings and guidance.”

The chapter in another letter congratulated the seminary for emerging champions in the National Debate Competition. It also commended the seminary for being the first in the Upper West Regional march past competition organised to commemorate Ghana’s 49th Independence anniversary.

They commended the Rector and staff for making great strides to retain their enviable position in the academic, social and spiritual realms.

“We entreat the students to work hard to ensure success in the West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as another avenue to our motto: “Lumen Splendiat” (Let Your Light Shine),” It added.
