WVI donates items to PLWHA

Suhum (E/R), Dec. 17, GNA – The World Vision International-Ghana (WVI), in the Suhum Kraboa/Coaltar District had presented drugs and food items worth ten million cedis to the ANIDASU Group of people living with the HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) at Suhum on Wednesday.

The items were presented by Miss Patience Salu, Programme Officer of the World Vision International and were received by Mrs Elizabeth Obeng Okrah, founder of the Group.

In an address, Miss Salu said the gesture was to support members of the group to live a meaningful life.

She assured that, the organisation would continue to support the PLWHA and urged members of the community not to stigmatise them. Mr Dan Lartey, a member of the Greater Accra AIDS Committee, regretted that even though many people were aware of the disease, yet their sexual attitude did not reflect on the level of the awareness. According to him, what made the HIV/AIDS menace worrying was the fact that a person could be inflected with the HIV virus for a long time without showing any symptoms of the disease, saying that, this means many people could infect others without showing any symptoms of the disease.

Mr Lartey expressed the fear that, if care were not taken, almost every family would soon have an infection due the high rate of infection of the disease.

He called on the District Assembly to regulate social activities like video shows, concert parties among others, since these activities also contributed towards the spreading of the disease. He stressed the need for society to stop stigmatising people living with the disease and rather care for and support them, the orphans and their families.
