WUC magazine launched

Tarkwa (W/R), Dec 26, GNA – Professor Kwesi Andam, Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has called on the universities and research institutions to make their findings available to local industries.

He said, “these research works should not be piled up at the research centres and libraries while industries rely on foreign works”.

Prof. Andam was speaking at the launch of the “Technocrat,” a quarterly magazine of the Western University College (WUC), at Tarkwa on Wednesday.

He said the magazine should serve as a link between the students, alumni, research institutions and local industries.

“We can know our successes as a nation, if our works were translated into reality and used to propel the country into the middle income level,” he stressed.

Mrs. Scholastica Mensah, Proprietor of West Link Chemists, advised parents not to confine their daughters to the kitchen.

“You must send them to school and ensure that they complete their education and play their respective roles as future leaders and parents,” she added.

Mr. Stephen S. Yirenkyi, Human Resource Manager of Goldfields Ghana Limited (GGL), advised universities and students, to ensure that research had a bearing on the country’s socio-economic situation.

“We must therefore support science, technology and democracy and fight against poverty, unemployment and indiscipline,” he stressed. An amount of 62 million cedis was raised from the sale of the first 15 copies.
