Wrangle in NPP At Kintampo

A MISUNDERSTANDING within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is gaining grounds forcing the national executive of the youth wing to suspend activities of Dr. Patapaa, a self-styled NPP vice chairman of the youth wing and activists of the wing at Kintampo.

Another headache for the executive in the constituency is the difference between the entire executive of the youth and the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. James Kwabena Bomfeh.

Speaking in an interview with the Chronicle, Mr. Kwame Awuah Twumasi, acting national organiser of the youth wing of the party disclosed that activities of Dr. Patapaa would be suspended soon, as his age disqualifies him from being a member of the youth wing.

The national youth organiser said Dr. Patapaa is creating division in the rank and file of the youth wing and if not checked it would pose problem to the party in the near future.

The constitution of the NPP, according to Twumasi, clearly gives a cut-off point of a youth at 40 and since the self-styled vice-chairman is above 40, he cannot be a member of the youth wing, he added.

Another disqualification is the fact that he is a member of the Council of Elders.

Twumasi, who is a lawyer at Sunyani told Chronicle that Patapaa himself boldly told them that he belongs to the Council of Elders of NPP.

To prove his assertion, the youth organiser said early this year, Patapaa was among some council of elders who met the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister to discuss issues pertaining to the development of the party in the region.

“This clearly shows his position in the party and he can never be allowed to hijack the youth wing in Kintampo,” Twumasi said.

The reason assigned to the suspension of the youth activities in the constituency is that the youth are trying to gain independence which, according to the national youth organiser, is not permitted under the constitution of the party.

“The Kintampo branch of the youth wing has sent a rival institution to counter the activities of the constituency executive.”
