Woyome’s threat to mention names got him freed – Jacob Yeboah

A former independent presidential candidate in the 2012 election, Mr. Jacob Osei Yeboah, has expressed worry why Alfred Agbesi Woyome was not jailed for causing financial loss to the state.

Blaming government for conspiring with the businessman to go free with the whopping amount, he noted that, Mr. Woyome wouldn’t have been jailed after threatening to mention some government officials involved in his fraudulent act.

“The fact is, from day one, one could tell that there is no way government would jail Woyome because of some reasons. The payment of the money to him and how he has been acquitted and discharged by the court were all orchestrated. He never forced the state to pay him the money… so there is no way the state could jail him,” he said.

Businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome was on Thursday acquitted and discharged on the two counts- causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretense.

Woyome was paid Ghc51 million for services rendered during the 2008 African Cup of Nations which was hosted by Ghana.

Discussing the ruling on Adom FM, Jacob Osei Yeboah insisted that, Woyome was freed because he was “smart”.

“The law is not about morality…the law is about facts and what you will present. Mr. Woyome was smart enough to have threatened that he will mention some names when the case started. He knew what he was about…because when he mention the names of those who benefited from the cash…that will be a disaster,” he said.

However, he described Ghana as a lawless country and insisted that the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC] has failed Ghanaians.
