The Oral examination of judgement debtor Alfred Agbesi Woyome who was arraigned before the apex court for a query on how he spent the GHC51 million and to uncover potential sources of income for the businessman in order to recover the monies unlawfully paid to him by the state can be described as “hide and seek”.
The businessman simply failed to answer straight questions posed to him by the third defendant represented by the Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General Godfred Dame on whether he (Woyome) has the property to satisfy the debt.
Responding to the question “what kind of business are you engaged in?” Mr. Woyome answered saying “I’m a businessman but since my infamous so-called arrest I have not functioned as a businessman because of government’s prosecution which I call persecution in a 7-year legal battle.”
But for Justice Alfred Benin, a Supreme Court Judge presiding over the case, it took Mr. Woyome about 4 rounds of question on what specific business he is into before he responded, “my business is legal and open to Ghanaians. I’m into the business of sourcing funds for projects which are mostly owned by the government and I have been one of the directors of the company that introduced Red Bull to Ghana and West Africa.”
Mr. Woyome intermittently lost his cool and disrupted the oral examination with the claim that the decision by the Attorney General to drag him before the Supreme Court to examine him is erroneous adding that he felt persecuted by the state through these actions given he has a payment plan agreement with the AG for the money to be paid.
Contrary to the Deputy Attorney Generals suggestion, Mr. Woyome denied ownership of his Abelemkpe residence asserting that the house belongs to his America based younger brother.
Woyome also failed to disclose the house registration number, denied sole ownership of Anator holdings limited, failed to mention to the court the percentage of his share he has in Anator holding limited among others.
Justice A.A Benin gave up to Friday, July 28, 2017, for Mr. Woyome to furnish the court with all documents on his businesses and properties whiles ordering the court registrar to subpoenaed the Lands Commissioner to provided ownership of Abelemkpe house.
The case was adjourned to October 2, 2017.
