Alfred Woyome is likely to open a defense against the state after the prosecution closed its case against the businessman.
Chief State Attorney Mathew Amponsah Thursday told the court that the state has ended prosecution after lead counsel for Alfred Woyome ended his cross examination with the ninth and final prosecution witness in the trial.
Mr. Woyome has since March 2012 been standing trial for allegedly receiving some GH¢51m as judgment debt against the state.
After the state prosecutors announced that they had ended prosecution, Lead counsel for the defendant Sarfo Buabeng prayed the court to give the accused person some time to decide on his next line of action.
Even though it is unclear what line of action Mr. Woyome is likely to pursue, Chief State Attorney Mathew Amponsah hints that the accused may either submit a notice to the court to discharge him or open defense against the state.
Meanwhile, the court has adjourned to February 10 for its next sitting.
